Texas has laid out ambitious plans for several interstate expansions to help accommodate the seemingly insatiable demand for improved road infrastructure, beginning with Interstate 2.
Interstate 2
Currently the lowest numbered mainline interstate in America, I-2 extends from Harlingen to the recently opened bypass around La Hoya. Long-term plans envision I-2 following the US 83 Corridor to Laredo, eventually intersecting with I-69 West. While various segments are undergoing upgrades, the more complicated section—from La Hoya to Roma—awaits thorough study concerning its development.
