The Importance of Early Detection
To facilitate earlier interventions, cognitive evaluations, or “cognoscopies,” are recommended for individuals over 45, similar to other preventative health checks. Early testing allows for the identification of at-risk individuals, particularly those carrying one or two copies of the APOE4 gene variant, which significantly increases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s.
Despite the gloomy statistics surrounding Alzheimer’s, the assertion that it should be a rare condition is supported by the potential for preventative measures. For instance, lifestyle changes targeting diet, nutrition, exercise, and chronic inflammation could significantly reduce risk factors associated with the disease.
