Part 2/8:
Peter Mark Sinclair Almond, better known as Mark Almond, was born in Southport, England. His childhood, marred by familial struggles—a father who reportedly regretted his birth and a mother who was physically abusive—shaped much of his personality. His formative years were spent with his loving grandparents, despite his challenges of asthma and undiagnosed mild autism and dyslexia.
At the tender age of 13, Almond began to reconcile his burgeoning identity as a gay man while developing a profound love for music, particularly glam rock. Influenced heavily by pop icons such as David Bowie and Mark Bolan, Almond crafted his unique aesthetic, which would later morph into the signature style of Soft Cell.
