Mexico, a major player in the automotive supply chain, has reported a drastic decline in auto exports. In January 2025, the country exported only 219,000 vehicles, a significant drop from October 2024's 332,000 units. This decline marks the lowest export figures for Mexico since July 2022 and demonstrates the fallout from artificially inflating exports in anticipation of trade tariffs and disruptions like port strikes. The year-over-year decline in exports reached a staggering 135%, the largest decrease since late 2021.
