The Need for Skepticism
While the BLS data claims employment and labor force participation remained unchanged, one must approach these figures with skepticism. For instance, the assertion that only 1.2 million Latinos entered the U.S. last year—and that merely 5% of them did not find employment—is a figure met with disbelief from various industry observers.
Back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest that if we assign realistic numbers to immigrant populations and their employability, the unemployment figures could be significantly more troubling than presented.
