Throughout the New Testament, particularly in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus employed a much stricter interpretation of the existing moral code, addressing and condemning behaviors like lust and anger as equivalent to adultery and murder, respectively. Jesus's enhanced moral expectations apply not only to heterosexual relationships but also establish a broader principle regarding responsible sexual conduct.
To this end, the argument posits that if Jesus condemned remarriage after divorce—a generally accepted practice today—because it could sever the marital bond designed by God, he would certainly not endorse same-sex relationships that exist outside of that union.
