In 1928, she enrolled in a philosophy program, later graduating with a thesis on science and perception. Soon after, she began teaching philosophy in high schools, but the complexities of social and political issues drew her attention away from academia and toward grassroots activism.

By the early 1930s, Weil was actively engaging in labor movements, supporting union strikes while donating portions of her salary to the less fortunate. This involvement sparked her interest in Marxism, though her independent convictions ultimately led her to distance herself from the bureaucratic tendencies she discerned in communist ideology.
