Since Jung's time, the term synchronicity has often been misappropriated by both skeptics and ardent believers. Events that may seem coincidental or "winks from the universe" have been erroneously labeled as synchronicities because they elicit emotional responses. However, such events usually do not meet Jung’s stringent criteria.
For instance, while a series of fish-related occurrences in a day may strike one as synchronistic, Jung himself dismissed it as a result of ordinary chance, emphasizing the importance of truly fortuitous internal-external connections.
