Part 2/8:
To assemble a new band, Davies placed an ad in the British music weekly Melody Maker, resulting in the recruitment of guitarist Richard Palmer, percussionist Robert Miller, and bassist-vocalist Roger Hodgson. Initially named Daddy, the band was rebranded as Supertramp to avoid comparisons with other similarly named groups. The name Supertramp was inspired by a book by Welsh author William Henry Davies.
Early Struggles: The First Albums
In 1970, Supertramp signed a deal with A&M Records and released their debut album, which was characterized by extended progressive rock compositions. Unfortunately, the album failed to attract a significant audience, resulting in lineup changes as members left the band.
