Part 3/8:
Hodgson switched from bass to guitar, and musicians such as bassist Frank Frell, percussionist Kevin Curry, and flutist-saxophonist Dave Winthrop joined the act. The group's second album, Indelibly Stamped, was released in 1971 but also did not perform well, prompting Misasa to cut off his funding and leave the band on shaky ground.
With most of the members departing, Supertramp was close to collapse. However, Davies and Hodgson assembled a new lineup that included Doug Thompson (bass), Bob C. Benberg (drums), and John Anthony Hell (saxophone). This new iteration adopted a more pop-oriented sound, setting the stage for their breakthrough.
