Following the success of Breakfast in America, Supertramp released Paris, a live album, in 1980. However, it wasn’t until 1982 that the band returned to the studio for Famous Last Words, a title that foreshadowed the incoming discord between Davies and Hodgson.
The working relationship between Davies and Hodgson soured, culminating in Hodgson’s departure from Supertramp in 1983 to pursue a solo career. Despite the split, Supertramp managed to achieve further hits such as "It's Raining Again" and "My Kind of Lady" with a new touring lineup that included saxophonist Scott Page.
