One notable encounter occurred when he was visited at home by Ken Clements, a researcher specializing in mathematically gifted children.
Clements conducted an operations test on Tao just a day before his eighth birthday. With a stunning score of 60 out of 60, Tao outperformed average students by a significant margin—year 12 students would typically score only 53. His responses were indicative of an understanding far beyond his years. For example, he adeptly solved complex algebraic problems, showcasing his ability to manipulate equations with ease.
