On the ice, the Capitals’ inaugural season was nothing short of disastrous. The Capitals struggled from the very beginning, starting the season with a record of 1-2-1 before spiraling into an extended losing streak.

Their total win percentage was a historically low .131, establishing the Capitals not just as one of the worst expansion teams but as the worst team in NHL history. Part of the problem lay in the goalie position, where none of the three goalies met expectations.
