Part 2/9:
Before the advent of heavy metal, society grappled with raw emotions and chaos following the impacts of WWII, finding limited outlets for their anger and darkness. The late 1960s marked a turning point, fueled by social movements, the rise of counter-culture, and the influence of drugs. In 1968, bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and a particularly significant group, Black Sabbath, began crafting a new sound. Black Sabbath, often heralded as the first true heavy metal band, used dark themes and heavy guitar riffs to express feelings of despair and rebellion.
