Mike Garson: Witness to Bowie’s Creative Evolution
Keyboardist Mike Garson was one of Bowie's most significant collaborators, participating in more than 600 shows from 1972 to 2006. Garson’s involvement spanned numerous Bowie albums, and he recognized Bowie’s star quality from their first meeting. While Garson initially joined Bowie's touring band without a deep familiarity with his music, he soon saw that Bowie was not a conventional leader. Instead, Garson characterized Bowie as someone who nurtured creativity, likening his leadership to that of musical great Miles Davis, who allowed his musicians to flourish without interference.
