The Visual Arts and Society's Intellectual Decline
In recent discussions regarding the impact of visual arts on society, a compelling argument emerges that societies overly reliant on visual arts may become uneducated and lack depth. While visual arts can evoke emotion, they often fall short in conveying reason, unlike literary forms which marry emotion with intellectual rigor. This was most evident during the Middle Ages when visual art served as a "gospel of the people," accessible to those who could not read. However, the advent of the printing press transformed society, granting access to written language and, subsequently, greater intellectual advancement.
