Compatibilists argue that free will is possible even under determinism, suggesting that AI could theoretically possess a form of free will—one constrained by its code but exhibiting complex decision-making processes. Conversely, from a libertarian standpoint, true freedom involves agency that current AI does not possess. If AI were to act outside its programming, the definition of AI's free will could shift dramatically.
