Part 1/8:
Understanding the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a deeply rooted and complex issue that has its origins stretching back thousands of years. This tension between Israel, the only Jewish state in the world, and Palestine, home to the Arab population, has seen escalation in violence and strife over time, particularly concerning the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Early Historical Context
To grasp the conflict's foundations, one must delve into history. Around the 17th century BC, the patriarchs of the Jewish people—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—settled in Canaan, a region that closely resembles present-day Israel, the West Bank, parts of Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. This area became known as the Land of Israel or the Promised Land.
