By 1992, the structural integrity of Yugoslavia was on the verge of collapse, leading to the formation of the Republic of Serbian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and subsequent declarations of independence by remaining republics.
This tragic unraveling stripped the federation down to only Serbia and Montenegro, which barely held on to the name "Yugoslavia" until it too transformed into the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2003. Ultimately, even this last semblance of unity disintegrated in 2006, as Montenegro voted for independence.
