Part 2/10:
France's early history dates back to the Paleolithic Era, when Celtic tribes, known as the Gauls, settled in the region of Gaul, which includes present-day Metropolitan France. By the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, Gaul fell under Roman dominion following the conquests led by Julius Caesar. The territory was segmented into five regions, marking the start of Gallo-Roman culture, which served as the foundation for the French language.
