The Aftermath of Prohibition
By the early 1930s, it became clear that Prohibition had failed in its intent, merely fostering corruption and crime. In 1933, the 18th Amendment was repealed, allowing alcohol to flow freely once more. Yet, the criminal empires forged during this time did not disappear; they adapted, thus diversifying into other illegal enterprises such as gambling, loan sharking, and drug trafficking.
