The Emergence of the Tiandihui
The narrative of the Triads truly unfolds in the late 17th century during the Qing dynasty, following the occupation of Beijing by the Manchu people. Despite the relative prosperity enjoyed by some, many Han Chinese perceived these rulers as foreign usurpers. Amidst social unrest, various secret societies began to form, offering protection and a means of rebellion against local officials.
