Quantum computing harnesses the principles of quantum mechanics to process information more efficiently than classical computers. The speaker explained that quantum bits (qubits) could represent multiple states simultaneously because of quantum superposition. This means that quantum computers have the potential to solve extremely complex problems much faster than classical counterparts.
Yet, with every technological advance comes a new challenge. The emergence of quantum computers poses a threat to existing encryption methods, which largely rely on the limitations of classical computers. If quantum computers can break current encryption, a new paradigm for secure communication will be essential.
