Rockefeller's business practices went beyond traditional capitalism. With vast political influence, he sought to reshape the healthcare industry. In 1901, he established the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (now known as Rockefeller University), committing vast resources to medical research that would ultimately benefit the pharmaceutical sector. He invested over $100 million in today's dollars to develop a cadre of medical professionals who adhered to his vision of healthcare, one that marginalized traditional, natural healing methods.
