Genovese's aspiration for expansion led him to call a national meeting of Mafia bosses in November 1957 in Appalachian, New York—a move that would inadvertently expose the entire organized crime framework to law enforcement surveillance. This infamous meeting brought together over 60 Mafia figures from around the country, unifying their activities under one roof. Local law enforcement, tipped off about the unusual gathering, executed a raid that culminated in mass arrests.
