Ruben’s childhood was marked by hardship. Raised in a family of ten siblings, he experienced physical and emotional abuse, which fostered a cycle of violence within him. With a stepfather who was an alcoholic, Ruben struggled with feelings of inadequacy and frustration. Instead of being drawn towards gang life, which surrounded him as a child, he gravitated towards boxing as an outlet for his anger. Starting at the age of twelve, boxing became a source of discipline and hope for him.
