What distinguishes the Femern Belt Tunnel is the application of a trench along the seabed where prefabricated sections will be sunk and interconnected. This tunnel will not only break records as the longest immersed tunnel in the world but also as the world’s longest combined road and rail tunnel. Notably, the project will connect Denmark's Lolland Island to Germany's Femar Island, just 11 kilometers apart, making it the closest sea crossing between the two countries.
