Most scholars have linked the tale to Mesopotamian cities, primarily suggesting Babylon as the possible inspiration, home to the famed Etemenanki ziggurat. While Etemenanki’s ruins offer a glimpse into a towering structure, new high-resolution satellite scans have unveiled an even larger structure buried beneath the sands of Mesopotamia, prompting speculation that this could indeed be the long-lost inspiration behind the Tower of Babel.
