In 1993, the cloak of secrecy surrounding the Sea Shadow lifted when the public was invited to view the experimental vessel for the first time. Following its initial testing phase wrapped up a year later, the ship’s unique design resonated in pop culture, notably influencing the stealth ship depicted in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.
The Sea Shadow continued to serve in various experimental capacities until 2006. Although the Navy sought to auction the vessel, no buyers emerged, leading to its dismantlement in 2012 alongside its supporting barge, HMB-1.
