Historical Coup Attempts and Their Failures
Despite the oppressive environment, there have been instances of resistance against the Kim dynasty. The most notable early attempts occurred during Kim Il-sung's rule in the 1950s, when internal factions aligned with Chinese and Soviet interests plotted to unseat him. However, during a critical meeting, followers of Kim turned on the dissidents, underscoring the regime's iron-fisted control and the profound loyalty demanded from its ranks. Subsequent purges eliminated these factions entirely by the late 1960s, ensuring Kim’s supremacy was unquestioned.
