Rockwell's activities drew the attention of law enforcement agencies that monitored his connections and protests, even leading to his discharge from the Navy for being "non-deployable" due to his political views.
On August 25, 1967, Rockwell's life was abruptly cut short when he was assassinated by former party member John Patler, highlighting the frictions within the extremist community. Patler, resentful of Rockwell's leadership, was arrested and handed a 20-year sentence for the murder.
