In the mid-1980s, Guns N' Roses played in various Los Angeles nightclubs like the Whisky a Go Go and the Roxy, gaining local popularity. By March 1986, the band signed with Geffen Records, receiving a significant $75,000 advance, a sum equivalent to more than double in today’s currency. Crucially, they turned down a more lucrative offer from Chrysalis Records because it would have forced them to alter their image and sound.
