As the band prepared to release their defining album, Appetite for Destruction, they managed to open for notable acts such as Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, and Iron Maiden. The album eventually became the best-selling debut album of all time, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. However, the road to success was not as glamorous as it might seem.

Duff McKagan, the band’s bassist, recounted that during the Appetite for Destruction tour, he and his bandmates often had to borrow money from roadies to eat because they saw no profit from their initial royalties. It wasn't until the hits “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child o' Mine” gained traction that things began to change for the band.
