Traditionally, former presidents and their spouses enjoy lifetime Secret Service protection. However, coverage for immediate family members over the age of 16 typically expires when they leave office. Presidents do have the option to extend this protection for up to six months after leaving office. For instance, during his presidency, Trump had extended Secret Service protection for his own children, a practice that has also been adopted by former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.
