Previously, Wilson had been a free agent and had considered both the Giants and the Steelers. While the Giants were reluctant to promise him the starting role due to the presence of Daniel Jones at that time, the Steelers offered him the opportunity to start. However, training camp injuries forced Wilson into a more subdued role than he may have desired. Ultimately, Wilson's stint in Pittsburgh proved to be short-lived, making his free agency decision particularly interesting given the Giants' prior interest in him.
