The city's proposed safety plan includes the establishment of a new police unit comprised of just ten officers, who will patrol on foot, bicycles, and motorcycles. Additional officers will augment these patrols. Critics argue that such a small number of officers is hardly adequate to manage the scale of the crime problem in a city of roughly 700,000 residents.
Moreover, the return of mounted patrols is intended to enhance visibility and deter crime; however, such measures may fall short in solving deeper systemic issues. The plan also touts $570 million in economic investments aimed at revitalizing the area through infrastructure improvements and events designed to draw crowds back to downtown.
