The fine, granulated sugar we commonly use today has not always been as we see it. The origins of sugar can be traced back to around 350 AD in regions that are now part of the Indian subcontinent. Early sugar was derived from sugar cane, where the juice was extracted and boiled to create a thick, unrefined substance known as molasses. This process laid the foundation for what would eventually evolve into the white sugar we’re familiar with today.
