Hive protocol: Like a needle in a haystack

in LeoFinance6 months ago (edited)

We are witnessing a time where we're able to send value to others from beautifully designed apps like Hive Keychain to a Lightning adress just as fast as a Solana transaction, just as cheap as a BNB Chain transaction and just as reliably as a bitcoin transaction. Everything with the added benefit of being non-KYC and not dependent on a handfull of frat bros who could pull the plug on the project when it's no longer profitable. I'm talking about using the Hive protocol, of course, the blockchain that forked away from Schleem and seized the founders' stake to put it in a DAO so that only the community-held, fairly-mined tokens remained.

Since the birth of HIVE in 2020, many L1 blockchains have come to light. There have been many NFT projects built on popular smart contract capable protocols such as Polygon & Solana and there have been a bunch of project tokens and meme coins with absolutely no utility at all.

It's no wonder bitcoin maximalists will simply state that

everything that isn't bitcoin is a shitcoin.

I mean, If 99% of projects in the web3 space are useless, or a straight up ponzi, why even bother looking for the 1% (or less)?

I don't think HIVE is just like every other shitcoin though.

I'm aware that I could be thinking that because of mi bias. I did, after all, trade time for fiat for HIVE and would benefit if the price goes up, but I do see the utility of the protocol and everything being built on it. If nothing else, it's a more private, more resilient alternative for paying Lightning invoices. I know this because I've done this dozens of times while making dozens of video tutorials. I pay shops that accept bitcoin with my Keychain and V4v apps with $HIVE and $HBD I earned from blogging and making other videos.

The question is: how to we get people to find this unique ecosystem full of development, utility and community, when there are literally thousands of other protocols with venture capital funding their marketing budgets and founding teams selling the exact same thing? Decentralization, speed and developer tools beyond what bitcoin could ever dream of.

Whenever a large Twitter account asks...

Name the next 100X altcoin

Thousands of crypto bros flock to post rockets, moons, lambos and memes.

It's the needle in the haystack situation, isn't it?

I don't mind though.

As long as this ecosystem lets me be part of a community, allows me to do non-KYC business and stack some magic internet money for the future, I'm staying here. There are plenty of tools here that make my IRL life better, so I'm sticking around.

Will I see you in 2030, when the needle in the haystack gets found?

In days when everyone is yelling to pay developers to come to HIVE, do better marketing, and onboard new users, I think that we have to work on our yard and make it more appealing... HIVE has something that almost none other cryptos have, the real community, the social platform for sharing things, which is still a very, very good sales point... We should better sell ourselves, maybe work on better SEO for our frontends, and create better bonds among dApps on HIVE... All that, viewed from the outside could attract other (good) developers/projects to come to build on HIVE...

We don't need more useless apps that milk users give nothing... We need good projects that can build sustainable projects, and that people can appreciate positive (real) interactions and real community...

It's true that seeing HIVE going down in CMC doesn't look good, but if we support real values, and eliminate the weeds, we can reverse that trend... We need people with YOUR way of thinking to spread their word on HIVE like mushrooms... 🙂

Thanks for all that you do!

Love this comment!

Hive definitely has an amazing community and I think there's a growing number of medium-sized accounts in this community, which in my opinion is great news! It means more long-term Hiveans that are able to spread Hive culture and at the same time balance out whale stake. Imagine MORE of these medium-sized accounts doing more Twitter spaces, livestreams, attending in person crypto conferences and producing content using our existing and ever improving tools! I'm sure that would bring more use and developer eyes to HIVE.

Unfortunately, I have noticed that whales became less active on HIVE than usual... I hope that they are building in the background, but who knows... So, your observation of medium-sized accounts growing is good news... We have to use those who are active and building, while they are motivated and inspired! Maybe the next cohort that will push will be small accounts? That would be awesome to see too!

I believe we should onboard developers to give Hive a wide scale of purposes. That could be the best way to promote it. Hive as a blockchain is top notch and could easily match Polygon and the others, it's just a matter of promotion - not among the end users, but among the poeple who chose networks backing their solutions and apps.

Agreed! Have you seen what the @vsc.network team is doing? On a recent chat with @khaleelkazi, they spoke about exactly this, attracting developers to our ecosystem:

I am aware of it, but I can't really appreciate the technology behind, so I merely promote it when somebody discusses real smart contracts and not the baby version of them as we know - Hive Engine ;)

I like the memecoin part and may be of bias too. Great to hear you use some of your Hive rewards through Bitcoin for real world goods. That's real man.

Yeah, I use some of my earnings to make video tutorials to show people how to use Keychain and V4v app. I haven't gone grocery shopping yet, but I could if I happen to set aside a decent stash of HBD after the bull run.

Ah okay fair enough. Makes sense know you love to hold on to you Hive tokens and power.

This analogy is old, but it's use here is new and very decriptive of the truly challenging situation in cryptocurrency today.

All the critism is justified by all the scams, ponzis, pipe dreams and various types of theft. Which are so numerous, we make up new names for them, like Rug pulls..

Steem was the dream, now turned nightmare, and Hive is our chance to keep the dream alive. It's technology prowness far exceeds it's popularity so far. So we are either early to the next big game, or riders on the ship which almost made it, crashed and burned.

Either way, it promises to be a helava ride.

It's definitely still one heluva ride! 🙌. I keep finding new developments, new community projects and improvements to existing tools. I don't think this ship has sunk, I just think it's shrouded by the overwhelming amount of burning ships with premines, foundations and empty promises.

With our fee-less transactions, I'd argue we're even cheaper than BNB. If we take into consideration the text based database's potential, we should be better off than a lot of other popular blockchains right now. But you said it perfectly, we are currently a needle in a haystack. Hopefully the smart contracts and other applications being developed can make that needle bigger, so we can get found.

Yeah, projects like @vsc.network are focusing on providing tools and documentation for developers. I certainly think they might find a home here where most popular programming languages can be used to write smart contracts.

Yeah.. I hope I can still be around in the platform at the year 2030.😊😊

Hope to see you there fren.

Yes.. soon.😊😊

Hive certainly stands out with its low fees and unique ecosystem. It needs more users and developers for wider adoption. And I'm hoping that happens soon

Does it though?

Polygon, BSC, Tron, Arbitrum, Solana have low fees.

I love the HIVE ecosystem and I do think it's unique, but the point of my post is that it doesn't stand out because every other blockchain claims to have the same characteristics.

Hive blockchain is powerful, but it's hard to see because of all the crypto garbage out there.

Hive is unique and isn’t like every other shitcoin out there. The less transaction fee also gives us a higher edge
I think what Hive needs is popularity or onboarding so many people who can always be active and contributing to Hive always

Hive is amazing! Let's see what happens :)

I's a thought I often have as well. What is the reason only a few people are finding our gem: Hive?
Is it just not appealing enough? Aren't we as good as we think ourselves? Should we utilize more marketing? Do we need more developers and projects?

Maybe the answer lies somewhere in the middle, idk. But I'm definitely wondering what 'THE' answer would be..
