Lessons from a month of power ups: consistency is the key to success

in LeoFinance3 days ago (edited)

31 days ago I decided to power up some liquid HIVE. So I did that. I increased my Hive Power by about 11 HIVE. I checked my vote value the very next day and it hadn't moved one bit. The result of my work was nothing. I decided to try one last time and powered up again the next day. The result again was nothing.

Stubborn me decided to give it about half a week. I'd try powering up 5 days in a row starting on a Wednesday and finishing on a Sunday.

Still nothing.

I was definitely doing something wrong.

So I set my foot down and decided to to a proper week: 7 days; Monday through Sunday, followed by another 7 day week, followed by another....

And before I knew it, I got this:

A calendar full of daily power ups.

I also got this nifty badge on my Hive Buzz profile for my achievement

But most importantly, I got the ball rolling. I did something consistently for a month without regard for my state of inspiration.

Am I a genius for it?

Pffff! not by a long shot.

But I did take a step in the right direction; the path taken by many inventors, artists and successful entrepreneurs. The path of consistency.

And don't get me wrong. While this task involved doing something daily without fail, there are other forms of consistency.

This is consistency, yes:

But this is also consistency:

And this is also consistency:

And also this:

(these are bottles of Hive juice I made)

So don't get discouraged if you miss a day or two. Just remember to pick yourself back up and keep doing what you set out to do. In my case, my Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) on the HIVE protocol is to reach 236,000 Hive Power (HP). I started this journey in September 2022 and have traced out 2671 days for my BHAG. In other words on Jan 1st 2030.

As you can see here, I'm slightly below my target for today, but I'm not at all discouraged by that. I've found that my video content has been well received by the community lately, so I think I'll focus on making videos and improving my video production skills this year.

I've found that my video content has been well received by the community lately, so I think I'll focus on making videos and improving my video production skills this year. Improving my set, lighting, delivery, web2 channels too and collaboration with other creators.

I've talked about developing my personal brand and finding my niche and I think I'm on my way to doing that with Decentralized Creative. I believe I can use web2 tools like YouTube to build an audience and bring them to freedom land by showing them valuable content about

  • Self custody
  • Value for value philosophy
  • Decentralization
  • Peer to peer value transfer
  • Business
  • Music
  • Sound recording & mixing
  • Video production

well done, it's great that u didn't get disappointed & give up, rather continued until u started to see the results of ur hard work, so it's indeed the consistency of the good work- that make the great dreams turn into reality. great post- great work, have a great day

Powering up every day for a month is a very small goal, but a lesson we can learn from a small goal like this is that these small goals can serve as milestones for very large goals such as my BHAG! All you need to do is stay consistent.

damn just when I think that my mana can recover someone makes another post.😛

I powered down some HBD and added a bit more money from real world in order to buy slpinterlands assets. So far I have gathered most cards I like from earth and death decks. I still want to buy water monsters and some SPS. So I should be back stacking HBD in a few months.

Building your Splinterlands decks is also another goal you can work towards, so congratulations!

Stacking $HBD is also a good idea as you can get 15% APR for holding it in your savings account. I don't know any other place where you can get that return without handing over your assets.

Thanks for the support @grindan and @hive-up team. Much appreciated.

Good advice, motivation in achieving goals should always be fueled
@tipu curate

Yes! absolutely, We should harness motivation when it hits, but we also need to have the discipline to be able to get to work even without motivation.

If we don't feel like it, we should do it anyway.

Nice, Alex! 💪🏻

Pretty cool, right?

Indeed. 👍🏻

I love consistency! And your videos! Congrats on your PUM badge.

I loved how you narrated your power-up story! It is like that... You do those small steps, you don't realize the progress... and after a while of doing it, you stop, zoom out, and realize how much you did!!! Consistency is powerful!! 💪

Happy #HivePUD!!!

I use to remember powering up 2 hive everyday of the month about 3 to 4 years ago. Honestly I just enjoyed doing it and didn't really check my Curation reports. However the consistency of doing it for a long time actually showed in my curation rewards, just like you've tried to emphasize.

@tipu curate

Consistency is the key definitely
Many of us want the result but we are not consistent to keep putting in the effort that will produce the result.
