It's Saturday, week 52, and the #SaturdaySavers year is up ! So this post is going to be a mix of weekly update and a review of how the year as a whole went in terms of hitting goals.

Here's my table of progress for the week;
How Did I Do Hitting Goals ?
2024 felt like a busy and stressful year in the real world, and the crypto world at the beginning and end of the year were very different. But overall I think I did well with the goals I set myself so long ago, even if I did have to give myself a kick in the posterior halfway through the year to try to stay on track !
Hive Power
I managed to hit the goal, but it was right up to the wire ! I ended up getting to 103% of the initial goal.
What enabled it to happen was a bit of putting some fiat in to do a couple of decent HPUD boosts, but mostly it was about pushing myself to increase my posting rate.
HBD
I totally missed my HBD goal, only hitting 80% of the 1207 gain I'd set myself.
The main reason for this was that when the price of HIVE crashed around the start of summer it just made no sense to keep buying HBD on the schedule I'd planned. Lesson learned; volatility can change things, and plans need to be adaptable enough to respond to new circumstances.
An additional factor was the change in the HBD interest from 20% to 15%. It's still a great rate of return, but naturally it impacted the earnings I'd expected to get each month. When it comes to next year's goal I might put in a modifier for interest rate.
Tribe Tokens
I hit my goals with both LEO and EDS (or EDSI, as they have now become).
Something I realised part of the way through the year was that I was spending far too much of my time messing around with what were effectively micro-transactions. Time that was better spent posting and curating.
Additionally, the volatility of tribe tokens is even greater than that of HIVE itself. In too many cases, a token is entirely dependent on it's creator, and if they lose interest or something goes wrong, they can rapidly drop to being virtually worthless.
There are currently three projects I'm interested in: EDS/EDSI, LEO and BBH/BBHO. In 2025, I think the plan will be to keep a few of the tipping tokens, but sell everything else and push it into those three.
I'm going to stop worrying about LPUD, because trying to do it every month meant pushing fiat I could ill afford into SWAP.HIVE. I'll focus on generating the tokens naturally.
Something else I'll do for next year is maintain delegations but not set a goal for adding to them. It's selfish I know, but I think keeping my HP for curation is better both for my own earnings and also for the payouts I can give to creators I like.
What I still haven't worked out for next year is how to set the goals, but I'm thinking along the lines of somehow flexing the goals based on the token price.
SBI
I totally busted through my SBI goal. It's nice, but I'll probably drop it as a goal for next year. Quite simply, I just don't expect to have the fiat available to buy liquid HIVE to support it.
Posts
This was my other failure. I allowed reality to distract me during the first half of the year, and fell badly behind my goal. It didn't help that I'm not set up to post when I'm away from home (too much of a security risk to my keys using hotel wifi !).
Despite making strenuous efforts, I didn't catch up fully, but ended up only missing the goal by a bit rather than totally failing. I can live with that.
Next year, I'll set a slightly more realistic goal, combined with trying to get Ecency set up on my mobile phone and pushing myself a bit at the start of the year (once I've got the website design project I'm working on out of the way.....)
Comments
I did quite well with comments, and hopefully avoided the trap of doing "yeah, good post" type one-liners.
But something I've learned is that some of the comments I write are long enough that I should just turn them into posts !
The key thing, I guess, is that I'm engaging with my Hive friends in a meaningful way, and hopefully making Hive as a whole into a better place 😀
Reputation and VESTS
I only tracked these out of curiosity rather than setting goals. They aren't a thing I can directly influence, but their growth is a reflection of the overall development of my Hive account over time. I'll still be well over 100 years old by the time I hit Orca !
So that was my week and year. I hope you hit your goals in 2024, and look forward to seeing what everyone's plans for 2025 look like.
Happy New Year, everyone ! 😁
If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.
If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.
I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.
So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
You did ridiculously good!
