Gradient Network is a Solana-based project aiming to redefine how we handle data through edge computing. It is coming along the same wave as Grass, DAWN, and io.net, and all that decentralized compute, storage, and bandwidth project.
Gradient Network recently held a funding round from Multicoin Capital and Pantera Capital are on board. Rumors are pointing to a potential upcoming airdrop: all you have to do to try getting the Airdrop is run a node by installing a Chrome extension (just like Grass.io).

The background
Cloud computing solutions, like those offered by AWS and Google Cloud, have been essential for various applications such as running, testing, storing, and processing data, and even performing GPU-related tasks. Many users have rented servers for specific needs or experimental purposes. However, newer applications, especially those requiring ultra-low latency, such as AI inference, IoT devices, and autonomous vehicles, are pushing the limits of traditional cloud computing. The centralized nature of cloud services, often physically distant from users, can introduce latency and inefficiencies, making cloud computing less feasible for such demands.
Edge computing offers a promising solution to this challenge. Unlike traditional cloud computing, edge computing distributes smaller, localized nodes closer to users, reducing latency and improving data processing efficiency. This approach enables quicker data processing and exchange, creating a smoother and more efficient experience. Moreover, edge computing infrastructures are suited to blockchain frameworks, enabling decentralized cloud solutions, such as those provided by IET for decentralized GPU services.
This decentralized approach does come with challenges. Training AI models typically requires highly synchronized, low-latency hardware, like GPUs in close proximity, to function efficiently as a unified system.
Gradient Network
Gradient Network is a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) project, and it proposes to address this poblem with a standard compute layer and resource allocation mechanisms—such as the pervasive connectivity and adaptive orchestration layers—to optimize node connectivity and resource distribution.
DeDIP are all of those projects that are able to combine physical infrastructure with blockchain-based decentralization. DEPIN aim to create decentralized and collectively managed physical infrastructures.
Airdrop Coming?
Gradient Network chose Solana for its high throughput, but real-time AI inference might demand levels of efficiency and low latency that even Solana’s infrastructure could struggle to support. In facts, Gradient Network has attracted investment from major venture like Multicoin Capital, Pantera Capital, and HongShan Capital, showing trustness in its vision.
Currently in an early test phase - Season Zero - Gradient Network allows users to set up nodes with a Chrome Extension that rewards users for sharing bandwith with tokens for a likely upcoming airdrop. Please note that connecting tools like Twitter/X also make users eligibile for rewards. Running a node should have no impact whatsoverer on performances of users pc or connection. Gradient Network offers rewards based on uptime and connectivity, encouraging active participation and contributing .
