Depends where you live.
Here basic insurance is mandatory - and covers all essential health services. For having premium insurance you don’t get better threatments/hospitals - most of the times it just works as a savingsaccount.

for example my oldest will get to the orthodontist from januari 2026.

I am taking a premium insurance for that (+/- 35 / month - 1 year waiting before you can claim)

It covers 80% up to €2k / year (means 24 months premium = €840 to get €1600 covered with own participation fee of €385,- so net benefit is only €375. For other premium services such as glasses its even worse
