I would say the latter is probably more common.
in the beekeeping community they are called nothing less than monsters, this is an unclean phenomenon that is most often found in Asia :) !VSC
What do they do that affects the bees?
Any action is time, for example, to brush bees off a honey frame with a brush, but those guys from China that I saw didn't waste their time on this and the bees went under the honey pressing auger together with the wax :) !BEER
