First day of my new job

First day of work officially out of the way and have to say, it was an awesome experience. The new job looks daunting and promising in equal measure but I generally cannot wait to get stuck in.

The biggest pervading my mind was how I'd deal with the commute between Nottingham and Leicester for the first seven weeks of training. However, after getting my first of many trips under my belt, I'm pleased to say that will not be a problem.

I did a lot of research about the trip and all the booking apps had crazy prices that frankly left me disheartened. Based on the booking apps, my estimation of the price of ticket for the week was far more than I could afford.

I also checked the rail card thing and found out I wasn't qualified for any of the available deals, which once again, was a bummer. So, based on the apps data, I got the price of daily tickets and projected that over a month. It amounted to a shit ton of money that I didn't have.

Not one to to let lame ass technology get me down, I went to the train station to ask about available discounts and I was told of something that works perfectly for me.

So, just in case you're not aware of it, you can go to the train station to get season tickets that cost far lower than what you'd normally pay if you booked daily. The season pass enables unlimited commutes between two different locations for a specific period.

I also checked the bus station for a similar seasonal travel deal and found out it is £100 cheaper but with each trip taking almost 2 hours compared(4 hours commute daily) to 30 minutes on a train, using the railway was a no brainier.

Anyway, for the job itself, we were introduced to the company and what our role will require. Just like my previous job, I will not mention the name of the company because of NDA and legal issues but I will say it is one of the leading insurance companies in the UK.

We were taught about things like diversity, job requirements and the company's ethos. We got to know ourselves, team leaders and how things work within the company.

All the new starters got really dope laptops and headphones that we'll use to carry out our duties. On top of the laptop, we are also going to get a high quality screen, mouse and keyboard for work.

We were also told that in the first seven weeks, we'll work remotely once a week. This comes as a pleasant surprise, might I add because I actually thought I'd be doing five days, so having to roll out of bed and straight to work on at least one day a week will be nice.

I am absolutely looking forward to getting started and experiencing the role. I know it will be tasking and will stretch me even more than my previous role did but hey, more money and much nicer work place.
