One week away

My new role comes with a new set of responsibilities and one of them is ensuring that I read emails and carry out what needs to be done i those emails. Which means it involves setting reminders and making sure I'm doing everything that I should do at certain times of the day.

To achieve my tasks, I'll have to ensure that I'm in regular communication with the required parties. Sometimes, I'll have to liaise with people that may have other things going on and so, I'll have to find the right balance.

I'm slowly learning that while having all the mental traits required to navigate the pressure of the role is a plus, the most important thing is to be organised. Constantly planning and drafting reminders to ensure that you have all that's necessary to carry out tasks at hand is a must.

I've been in the role in a little less than a month and I took my first holiday last week and then resumed on Thursday. I came back to a ton of emails and with an unforgiving schedule. I inadvertently booked myself into training and then missed the training because I was overwhelmed. This led to receiving a bit of a bollocking from the organisers but that's a lesson learned.

Moving forward, I'm going to be prioritising my organisational skills more than anything. I'll be using all the digital tools at my disposal to ensure that I stay on top of things because that's basically my job.

Taking calls as an agent comes with much less responsibility because immediately you put down the phone, you're done.My new job keeps me on my toes and against my will, I end up spending a lot of time thinking about work when I'm going about my regular activities.

It is nice to be a part of the process and have a role that is critical to the smooth running of a massive business. I'm still adjusting and learning as time goes on. I'll make more mistakes and learn from them but ultimately, I know I'll do really well.
