Early last year, our sedan was written off... and that meant that we needed to replace the car with another one. We took the chance to replace it with a mid-sized SUV that would be able to do some towing as well as being able to move harpsichords and fortepianos for our concerts.
Everything was going great with the new used car... until everything wasn't. First, some oil consumption issues, then transmission, then chains... and thank goodness that the used car dealer (where we have bought all our cars...) looked after us through it all and without additional expense to us. However, after this last fix was done... he seriously recommended that we trade it back in for a different one before the year warranty was finished.
... and so, he has been looking for another similar car for us. There was one last year, and it was almost perfect... but given that we knew nothing about cars, we had a pre-purchase inspection done on it... and they guy was super thorough... and came away with a number of things that we would never had known about... and although we were interested in the car, he said that we should NOT get it.
Fine.... sad, as I was just keen to leave the mess of the other car... but if that meant that we were likely to jump into another mess... well, that was a headache that we didn't need!
Then towards the end of last year, there was a potential Toyota that was really likely to fit the bill!... and we were going to get the mechanic to do the inspection again, but it turned out that the towing capacity was under what we needed... and that would defeat the purpose of going to a larger car. So, more petrol costs... without the ability to do what we needed it to do. No thanks!
Then, last week... I saw the yard had listed an interesting one... a Mazda... slightly reaching above what we had budgeted for (and that was why the dealer hadn't contacted us...) but everything seemed right. Plus, it was only a 2020 model and with low kms!
The mechanic finished his report today... and it was glowing.... he said that he would buy it himself! And there can't be more of a recommendation than that!
So, hopefully, this car mess is over and past us... famous last words. But it just goes to show how having an expert second opinion is definitely worth it. Of course, it doesn't guarantee that this car is faultless in the future... but at least we aren't jumping into something that definitely has current faults!

New car? XD
Yay for getting past the car mess and coming out with what sounds like something workable! How were you hauling around all your instruments before?! D:
Well, the violins were easy... but the harpsichords/fortepianos... we had to borrow cars for that period. We took this one to Jervis Bay... and it runs NICE!
