I was very happy to receive notice from HiveBuzz today, that I have given out or upvoted other peoples articles or comments 36,000 times in 3 years! It makes me smile, because thats a lot of Hive and Leo!
Rewards Pool, Upvotes, etc
The system on Hive and Leo allows us ten 100% votes a day, or 20 50% votes a day, the size of which are determined by our stake. These rewards come not from our wallets, but from the reward pool. It is technically the new coins minted each day, which make up the reward pool, sometimes called "inflation". So these rewards don't cost us anything, and I repeat, they don't come from our wallet.
Use it or Lose it
The daily upvotes we get, don't stack or accumulate, if you don't use them, they expire. They are like the Biblical Manna from heaven, for those of you versed in the Christian Bible. Your voting power regenerates daily, but never goes above 100% and you use it, it is magically regenerated at a constant or fixed rate, taking one or more days to regenerate fully, depending on what percentage you use.
So if you buy and power up tokens, you have influence on rewards
Some may feel your influence is small, but its influence none the less and rewards are like gifts, they make everybody smile. Plus if you power up and vote, and you are playing an essential role in our ecosystem. You reward people for good content, which benefits the community. Your encourage both the old and new to continue content creation and continue to contribute to the community.
The gift that gives in return
The special beauty is that when you give, you also get. You upvote someone and you can expect a portion of the gift you bestow. This particular trait of Hive, is believed to be designed by Dan Larimer to reward the behavior you want to see, which is thought to be in the best interest of the community. And on Leofinance, and soon on Hive after the next Hardfork, this system ignores the aspect of time voted.
So 36,000 upvotes is my contribution? Yes, part of it.
certainly I like to think my content, in terms of articles written on my blog and also the comments written on other peoples blogs is my contribution to the ecosystem. But the other important aspect in addition to moral support and feedback on articles that I give, is the financial support. I care fully try to utilize my voting power each day, and support both the people who consistently create good content, both old members and new, along with trying to encourage engagement by upvoting both comments on my posts and other peoples. I love to see 3-4 upvotes on comments, as that is engagement and economic support for the social part of social media. I believe in walking the talk and my numbers suggest this statement is true. 36000/3 years is roughly 36000/1000 days or an average of 36 comments or upvotes a day, for 3 years. And I certainly have good role models here in @onealfa.leo and @taskmaster4500 and certainly others like them on Hive, who upvote and engage here everyday.
It is a lot of work, but a labor of enjoyment and purpose. The enjoyment is reading and rewarding with upvotes, the purpose is financial support for individuals and the ecosystem. I am grateful to @dan for creating Steem, and @blocktrades and his developer team for creating Hive, along with thanking all the other developers on Hive who have contributed to the Hive blockchain and Hive Social Media Platform. I also appreciate @khaleelkazi and his developer team for creating Leofinance and the other applications on Hive created as part of the Leofinance Community. But the separate point of this post is that it is the community that we all sustain, with our content and our support of each other.
The things that makes Hive, Leofinance and other communities here special are not only the developers, and founders of the communities, but the loyal members, consistently doing what they can to enrich the lives of other members figuratively with content and literally with upvotes. It takes all of us to sustain this community.
Voting is giving, and being given, sharing and getting a share, and caring and being cared about.
It as that 1960's era song "Some Kind of Wonderful"
Thank you everyone on Hive and Leofinance.
Penned with my hand.
