I almost did a similar thing to what you suggested in 2017-2018. I worked for the university's "student" IT department... Had access to the servers and hundreds (maybe thousands?) of computers. I was talking with some supervisors, who were on board with the idea, and we found out that the university had a clause in it that stated that outside university nodes were not allowed to be ran and any crypto mined/money made was subject to university confiscation and possible expulsion/firing of the individual(s) mining the crypto/making money.
I know a school district is going to be different than how a university would approach. I would absolutely get approval prior to going through with it. I'd also imagine you would be able to secure the stored-information which could help constrain their issues with the stored content.

That is very interesting. I will have go dig through our policies to see if we have anything in place. I manage all of it and do most of the policy stuff, but we do have some boiler plate items at the district level that might apply here and I should probably be aware of.
