Jupiter has been a very popular DEX on the Solana network. Many of you might remember their $JUP token airdrop which happened about a year ago and was a pretty generous one too. Not long ago Jupiter put it up for the community to vote if another batch would be released in a second airdrop called Jupuary. The vote to do so passed which, by the way, isn't always the case as we saw with the infamous Mantra airdrop. Over there "the community" voted to prolong the drop to somewhere in the distant future raising red flags and distrust among the Mantra community.
However, I've never read anything negative about Jupiter and their allocations so I was eager to learn more about their second distribution for loyal users.
Jupuary
The massive 700M $JUP airdrop will be split into 500M for users (of Jupiter DEX) & $JUP token stakers and 200M for Carrots and Good Cats. Not sure what the latter ones mean so I'll be focusing on what I do know. Swapping & staking.
If you have been using Jupiter throughout the past year actively, you are likely eligible.
For example, to meet the minimum threshold for swapping, you needed to have a total volume of estimated >$800. This would earn you 50 $JUP. Other tiers are shown in the pic below and require a bit more active swapping.
If you have been using perps, DCAing, or limit order products, you are also considered for extra rewards if the minimum threshold is met.
During the past year, Jupiter has held voting sessions for new projects that were launched on their platform. The rewards for these have already been paid but the Jupuary airdrop will give out some extra rewards not only for voters but also for all stakers as well.
How To Check Allocation?
First of all, note that this is a draft and can perhaps still change a bit. Also, there is no airdrop checker live yet so beware of scams. This being said, if you are curious about whether you have met the threshold when it comes to swapping, there is a way to check your volume on Jupiter. Here's how:
Go to Dune. Copy/paste your Solana wallet address in the field shown in the picture below. Click 'Run'.
You will now be able to see your total volume used from November 3rd 2023 to November 2nd 2024 which is the snapshot day so swapping now won't count toward this airdrop anymore.
Remember that the minimum volume to qualify is >$800 so if you have more within the range, you should be eligible for at least $50 JUP. The next tier would require a volume of $29K and would earn you ~250 $JUP.
Conclusion
To move up to higher requires significant volume but all in all, it seems pretty fair for the platform to favor their heavy users. After checking my swapping volume, it seems I will be eligible for at least 50 $JUP which is not that bad. I'm also staking a small amount of JUP, voted a couple of times, and used limit orders and some other Jupiter features. This should add up a bit to my final allocation and I'd be very happy with about 100 JUP.
In my opinion, Jupiter has been one of the fairest ones among 2024 airdrops and if I'm not happy with my allocation, I can only blame myself for not being active enough as this second airdrop was announced a year ago.
As for the year 2025, I'm thinking about whether it would be wiser to spread my activities across a few different applications and go for the minimum rewards or focus most of my capital on farming a single one to create more volume. There are many similar DEXs with possible future airdrops now on the SUI blockchain where I've become active recently and therefore this has become relevant.
