Alternatives to "dodge" the heat can be ice cream, popsicles, juice and anything else very cold.
Now, another alternative is a good hose bath and it's actually fun.
Here in the region where I live, some schools choose a day so that students can be hosed down. That season hasn't arrived yet and I even miss the cold.
Air conditioning can be a great alternative to escape the heat.
